Q: When/How can I apply?
A: Applications are accepted each fall and qualified applicants must go through an interview process before being invited on to the council.
Q: Do I have to pay to be on the Leadership Council?
A: No, at least not with money. Leadership Council members contribute in terms of time, not dollars. Occasionally there may be unofficial social events coordinated where members must pay in order to play.
Q: What's in it for me?
A: Members of the SAC Leadership Council develop close working relationships with their fellow council members as well as with the Alumni Association staff. They strengthen their public relations skills through event coordination and management and through presentations, speeches and campus tours. Additionally, members work on teambuilding skills and personal development as well as on developing a network of alumni resources. Members also receive additional perks such as a t-shirt and polo plus additional CSU giveaways and promotional items. Oh yeah, most of the meetings are catered too - nothing beats a FREE meal!
Q: What are the requirements?
A: Members must be a member of the Student Alumni Connection, in good academic standing, agree to positively represent SAC and CSU and must abide by the committments outlined below:
- Attend all SAC Leadership Council meeting. Only two (2) absences are allowed per semester
- Attend all SAC Leadership Council retreats (a maximum of 2 are held per year)
- Attend all major SAC events or find a way to assist before or after the event if attendance is not possible. Only one (1) absence is allowed per semester
- Volunteer for Alumni Association events when possible
- Participate and/or chair at least one committee
- Endorse and help promote all SAC events and programs, including, but not limited to, the Best Teacher Awards, University Ring Program, SAC Packs, Distinguished Alumni Brunch, Etiquette Dinner, etc.
Q: How much time do I have to commit?
A: SAC Leadership Council meets once a week for an hour and also dedicates additional time (if needed) for planning events. Members also attend retreats at least twice a year and coordinate events during Ram Welcome (late August - right before classes start). Additionally, members are expected to be at various events, serve on committees and give presentations at various times throughout the year.
Q: Is this a paid position?
A: Leadership Council members volunteer and participate out of the goodness of their own hearts and because the majority of them bleed green and gold. Actually, the secret is all of the perks, but shhhh, don't tell anyone!
