CSU Grad Named Deputy Chief Counsel for the Democratic National Convention
By Beth Etter, ’03
Dan Stiles
Dan Stiles (’00) admits that he pursued an atypical path to become a lawyer. Though he always wanted to be an attorney, he studied civil engineering as an undergraduate.

"I like understanding how and why things work," he says with a smile. "Engineers and attorneys love to use their knowledge of how and why things work to help people arrive at solutions to everyday and complex problems."
Stiles is a former ski racer and has traveled all over the globe. He served as National Traveling Press Coordinator for Vice President Al Gore's presidential campaign at its Tennessee headquarters and as a director for the 2000 Democratic National Convention. Recently, Stiles served as county counsel for Ken Salazar's 2004 U.S. Senate campaign and county counsel for the Colorado Democratic Party in the 2006 election.

Stiles recently made headlines around Denver for being named deputy chief counsel for the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) to be held in Denver from August 25-28, 2008. Stiles will work closely with DNCC’s chief counsel, Susana Carbajal, on a wide range of commercial and constitutional matters for the convention. "We are so pleased to have Dan on board with us for what is sure to be a truly momentous occasion here in Denver next August," said Leah D. Daughtry, Chief Executive Officer of the DNCC. "I'm confident his political experience and legal expertise will make a great addition to our team as we plan for the 2008 Democratic National Convention."

A Senior Associate practicing corporate and governmental law at Isaacson Rosenbaum P.C. in Denver, Stiles will start full time with the DNCC on February 1, 2008. Jon Steeler, Isaacson Rosenbaum's CEO, said of this appointment, "We are excited for Dan. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We know he'll help make the Convention a success for Denver and for the Party's nominee."

While at CSU, Stiles was ASCSU president from 1999-2000, earned the Engineering Dean’s Council Laureate Award in 2000, and was the recipient of the Albert C. Yates Student Leadership Award in 2000. He has continued his involvement with CSU as a commencement speaker for the College of Engineering in May 2006 and as a board member of the Denver RAM Network.
He received his law degree from the University of Denver College of Law in 2004.
